Simple Seared Ahi Tuna

Posted by Tara · Leave a Comment

One of my favorite meals while I am dieting is a simple seared Ahi Tuna steak.  I usually serve it with brown rice, or quinoa, and asparagus or green beans.

What you will need for this recipe:

~Fresh Ahi Tuna steaks, Salt, Fresh Cracked Black Pepper, and Olive Oil

For the sauce:

~Rice wine vinegar, Red Pepper Flake, Honey, Braggs ( amino acids, tastes like soy sauce, much lower in sodium, but same delicious taste), and Chili Oil

Heat 2 TBSP of olive oil in a pan on medium heat.  Sprinkle each side of the tuna steaks with salt, ( I like and use Morton’s Lite salt), and cracked black pepper.  Place tuna steaks in pan, sear on each side to your desired temp. I like these served rare, so I cook for about 1-2 minutes per side. Take out of pan and allow to rest for 5 min.

The sauce is super simple too! In a small pan heat about 1/2 cup of Braggs liquid amino acids, 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar, 1-2 TBSP honey, red pepper flake to taste, salt and pepper.  When it comes to a boil, turn it down to low-medium heat and simmer for 5 min.

Slice the tuna, serve over a bed of brown rice or quinoa, top with sauce.  Add your favorite veggie and enjoy!

My Name is Tara Thatcher. I am an ATHLETE.

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Tara Thatcher, and I am an athlete. I always have been, and always will be. I strive to be the best at every sport or competition that I am involved in. I have a work ethic, drive, and dedication that I learned while serving as a military policeman in the Marine Corps. If there is a challenge, I meet it head on. I donʼt believe in excuses, so I give my all in everything I do. Every workout, every cardio session, everything.

I started with several sports, and narrowed it down to swimming, speedskating, track & field, and swim club. So in high school, I was a year round athlete. Always doing something. Staying out of trouble. Competition fuels me. It is in my blood. Always has been, always will be. If anyone told me “no”, that would only add fuel to the fire, and I would answer back “hell yes”! You doubt me? That makes me stronger, and when I get there, I will prove you wrong!

After high school, I attended community college for awhile. I had no outlet for my athletic abilities, and really missed the competition as well as the every day regimen. I was a little lost without it. I decided to join the military, to give me some direction and perspective in my life. I decided on the Marine Corps, because they were the best, and I love a challenge.

The physical training there brought me back to life. I rose to the top, during the PFT ( physical fitness test) which includes a three mile run, flexed arm hang ( for females), and a minutes worth of crunches. I was in the top percentage of women, and was quite competitive with some of the men there too. To be stronger and faster, I started adding weight training back into my daily regimen.

When I returned home from the Marines, I took a job as a personal trainer at a local gym. There, a fellow trainer questioned if I had ever though of doing a “figure” competition. I had no idea what she was talking about. But, I did end up going to a local bodybuilding show to see what this was. I watched the lean toned, graceful, muscular women on stage in awe. I had found my next challenge.

I trained for over a year, poured through magazines like Oxygen, and Muscle & Fitness Hers for tips. I scoured the internet to find out information on diets, training, suits, everything that went into it. I finally stepped on stage at the 2006 NANBF Natural Minnesota Invitational. I won the figure tall class of nine, and I was HOOKED! I loved watching my body change, being on stage, and I found the competition that I missed!

I have been competing ever since then, and just wrapped up my eleventh  show. I am always looking to improve my “total package”. Meaning I want to show up each time better conditioned, less weaknesses, improved upon. It is all about evolving and growing. I compete at a National level, and have been for a few years. I hold myself to a very high standard, and my determination and drive have really helped me get there.

I always have been, and always will be a natural athlete. I was given this one body. I enjoy pushing it past itʼs limits, seeing how far I can go, and seeing what I am made of. I rely on high quality supplements to help me strengthen my weaknesses, and really make the most of the training I do. I train with weights, very intensely, and to failure. I need supplements that can help me repair and rebuild the damage I do every time I go to the gym. I also need to get very lean for my competitions, so I need a fat burner to help me incinerate any extra fat, so that my hard earned muscle can been seen at itʼs best! The food that I eat is fuel. It provides my body with the nutrients that it needs to perform at itʼs best. The supplements that I put into my body should do the same.

I am also a working  fitness model. I have been blessed to work with such companies at Life Fitness, Gold’s Gym, Gopher Sport, Shop NBC as well as others. That means that even in my “off season”, ( when I am not getting ready for a competition), I need to be able to maintain a pretty lean physique, and also be able to get a little leaner quickly, depending on what the client wants to see, physique-wise.  This holds me accountable to clean eating, and working out year round.

I firmly believe in living a healthy lifestyle, and eating clean. There are countless benefits to this!  I want to be a positive role model for others, especially other women, and show them that healthy and strong is beautiful!  I want to help educate and inform people about the benefits as well as provide recipes and tips to help them make a positive change in their lives.

I am currently training and getting ready to compete in both bikini and figure at Fitness Universe in Miami! I am excited, nervous, and working hard every day to bring my best to the stage there! I am also actively seeking sponsorship from supplement companies, health and wellness companies, etc.  If you think I would be a great spokesmodel or representative for your company, please contact me at tara@taraathatcher.com!

Great North Championships

Hello all! The Great North Championships were held last night, in Plymouth Minnesota.  I had a wonderful time there, and all of my hard work paid off, because I got to leave with some hardware!  I was 3rd in Figure Open, and I am the Bikini Tall Class Champion!  I really thought that the promoters did a great job with the competitor bags! Instead of a bunch of supplements that I don’t want or use, they filled our bags with healthy, organic snacks and drinks! So THANK YOU for that!

I have the most wonderful support system ever, and couldn’t do this without them! I want to recognize the people that make this possible. I want to thank my parents, Rosemary and Jerry, for always being so supportive, and being there for me! To my Fiance, Benjamin, I love you so much, and couldn’t do this without you!  To my trainer/coach Shawn Myszka, at Explosive Edge Athletics, you make sure that no one outworks me, and it pays off!  To my sponsor, Missfit Clothing, I appreciate your generosity so much.  To my friends Keri, Megan, and Amber, you guys are incredibly important to me, and I am so glad that you could be there!  To Abby, thank you for doing such an amazing job on my hair!  And to Tamee Marie, who made me the most beautiful suit I have ever laid eyes on, THANK YOU!

I will be competing at Fitness Universe in Miami next!  That is June 18-19!  I am working hard to improve my physique and always working on my presentation! I am excited to go with my friends, and excited to go to MIAMI!

After that, I will be taking some much needed time off, to plan my WEDDING! I am marrying the most amazing man, and we have a very special wedding to plan:)

I will be posting pics from the show as soon as I get them. I brought my camera with, and didn’t take even one picture with it!?!  LOL!

Thanks all!
